1. Effect of Online Instruction on Keyboarding Accuracy Achievement among Office Technology and Management Students of Polythecnics in Nasarawa State
Prof. Eze T.I. and Nwaokwa Emilia Okechi
Abstract
This paper sorts the effect of online instruction on keyboarding accuracy achievement among office technology and management students in Nasarawa State. Three research questions and three null hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance guided the study. The population of the study was 184 National Diploma (ND) II OTM students in polytechnics in Nasarawa State with a sample size of 95 students. Quasi-experimental research design was adopted and instrument for data collection was OTM Accuracy Test Instrument (OTMATI) which was validated by experts. A reliability correlation coefficient of 0.81 was obtained for the test items using the Spearman’s Correlation Co-efficient. The mean statistics was used to analyze the research questions while analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to test the hypotheses. Findings showed that students taught keyboarding accuracy via online instruction had higher post-test mean achievement score than their counterpart taught using conventional method. Findings also indicated that female students taught keyboarding accuracy using online instruction had greater post-test mean achievement score than their male counter-part taught with the conventional method. Interaction effect of teaching methods and gender was not significant on students’ achievement in keyboarding accuracy. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that online instruction has the potential to improve Office Technology and Management students’ accuracy achievement in keyboarding. It was recommended that OTM lecturers should use online instruction in teaching keyboarding to enhance students’ accuracy achievement in keyboarding.

Leonid Martovytsky, Vasylii Glushko, Zoia Shanina, Olena Syvachuk
Abstract
Full-scale studies of the actual loads on the superstructures of ore-bridge loading cranes have been conducted. The combination of load histograms with lines of influence made it possible to obtain spectrograms of changes in internal force factors for bars of grate and travelling beams of ore bridge loading cranes with A7-A8 operating modes.

Abstract
This study investigated shelving and shelf-reading as a vital way of maintaining print information resources at the University of Jos Library. Data were collected from 4O shelving staff using self-designed questionnaire based on a five point Likert scale and analyzed using descriptive statistics and hypotheses testing. The findings revealed thatall shelving staff have good knowledge of shelving and shelf-reading as a core routine, it helps library patrons to easily locate and retrieve information resources of their choices thereby saving their time, it‟s critical to the success delivery strategies of the organization, majority of shelving staffare supervised and happy. The testing of hypotheses using one-way ANOVA indicated that there is no significant difference between shelfing staff by allocated subject area as (F(8,30) = 0.36; p>0.05). Thus hypothesis 1 was not rejected. It the means allocated subject area has no influence on shelving and shelf-reading of information resources among shelving staff. Also, established is there is no significant difference in shelving and shelf-reading of print information resources between male and female shelving staff as (t = -0.48, df = 38, p>0.05). Hence hypothesis 2 was not rejected. This means that both male and female shelving staff has no influence on this core routine in university of Jos Library. The main reported challenges among other challenges were inhalation of dust, chemical and dirt falling on shelving staff and dark open shelve areas due to dull fluorescent bulbs. Finally, strategies that could improve the shelving routine were proffered and it summed up asface masks and lab coats should be provided for shelving staff and open shelves area need to be illuminated with brighter fluorescent bulbs so as to enable staff do their jobs diligently and promote the library services via shelving and shelf-reading core routine.

Abstract
This study was carried out to assess the importance and challenges faced by final year students of Library and Information Science(LIS) University of Jos at their designated Places of Industrial Training (IT).
To facilitate generation of data, the Study explored the following: Personal evaluation of the importance of SIWES by final year students, Extent to which the importance of SIWES was acquired, frequency of I.T place, Students‟ satisfaction level, Students‟ evaluation of the Organization where they did their Training, nature of tasks performed during Industrial Training, duration of IT, supervision of LIS students by supervisors from University of Jos, challenges faced by LIS Students during I.T and the solutions proffered to the challenges. These Ten objectives gave raise to Ten Research Questions.
The target population of the Study consisted of all final year LIS students of 2018/2019 academic session. One Hundred and One (101) respondents, were drawn from population size of One Hundred and Thirty-Six (136) students and was used as Sample size for the Study.
The research design adopted was survey design. Self-developed questionnaire was employed as the research instrument for the study. Data gathered were analyzed using percentages, mean statistics, standard deviation and hypotheses were tested using ANOVA.
Major findings show that SIWES was evaluated by LIS Students as “extremely important,” the extent to which LIS students acquired the importance of SIWES was at “A very large extent,” Financial constraint and inadequate computers during ITF were major challenges or inhibiting factors to the importance of SIWES. Finally, this study recommended that LIS Students should be paid some stipend by Federal Government, adequate computers should be provided by organizations where LIS Students go to do their IT and supervisors should visit students more than once at their places of IT for proper monitoring and assessment for optimal results of this important exercise.

5. Competency- Based Curriculum (2-6-3-3-3); Is Kenya ready for its adoption?
Dennis Kinoti Atugi, Joydrine Njeri Njeru
Abstract
TEducation is seen as a powerful tool by which a society is enlightened from their natural state of ignorance, poverty, disease, selfishness, fear, corruption, injustice, enslavement, moral bankruptcy, or some other undesirable conditions. Its only through education that an individual will be formed and becomes a useful member of society and enable them to promote their culture to lead a good life. The main purpose of education hence can be summarized as facilitation of one to develop the potentials and abilities that are already essential. For this to be achieved a country must adopt a curriculum that is coherent with a country’s vision. Competency- based curriculum is an approach that allows students to advance based on their ability to master skills rather than master theoretical concepts. This paper highlights on the preparedness of Kenya as a Country to adopt the new system for her to reap the maximum benefits from its implementation, this has been prompted by contradicting sentiments from various key stakeholders in the education sector. Information sought has revealed that Kenyans prefer CBC than 8-4-4 but there is an agreement that we require more preparations to make the roll out flawless, some of the ways of improving its adoption include extensive consultations and provision of resources to the learning institutions.
